Will end ‘corruption bases’ of previous governments: Rekha Gupta

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday vowed to end “all bases of corruption” in the national capital during the tenure of previous governments. Her statement came a day after Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena ordered an inquiry into alleged corruption in the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government’s ‘Jai Bhim Mukhyamantri Pratibha Vikas Yojana’. Launched in 2018, the scheme aimed to provide free coaching to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Other Backward Class (OBC) students in private coaching institutes for various competitive examinations including Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), Staff Selection Commission (SSC), National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). However, the scheme was discontinued after the new Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government was formed in February this year. When asked about the directions issued to investigate the matter at an event, Gupta said, “If you allocate Rs 15 crore for a scheme and then submit bills of Rs 150 crore, how will things work? We will end the corruption dens of the previous governments.” He assured that the “hard-earned money” of the people will not be wasted.
