Air India confirms death of 241 people on board
Air India has confirmed that 241 people on board its London-bound plane died when it crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad airport on Thursday. The aviation company said in a statement issued late Thursday night, “We are sad to inform that out of the 242 people on board, 241 have been confirmed dead.” The statement said that the only survivor is a British citizen of Indian origin and is being treated in the hospital. Air India’s London-bound plane crashed into a medical college campus here minutes after taking off from Ahmedabad airport on Thursday afternoon. There were 242 people on board the plane, including two pilots and 10 crew members.
